KEEPING OUR ORANGUTANS HAPPY AND HEALTHY
To ensure the welfare of the 233 rescued orangutans at Nyaru Menteng, we require about 4.5 tons of nutritious food every month, 80 per cent of which is fruit!
Yams, melons, eggplants, oranges, rambutan, sugar cane, jackfruit, papaya leaves, and, of course, bananas—our caretakers need to store all this food safely to keep it fresh and maintain its quality. However, our new Nyaru Menteng centre does not yet have such a storage facility. This is especially important as we still need to move more orangutans from the old to the new centre so they can all be reunited again in one place. And as you can imagine, especially our young orangutan students in Forest School are always hungry and love their daily fruit breaks.
With your gift today, you can help us support the construction of this essential facility and bring our orangutan family back together again this Christmas.

A WILD FUTURE FOR BANANA LOVERS LIKE BENI
The building will not just include a separate banana and fruit storage rooms—serving both the orangutans in our rehabilitation centre and on the pre-release islands— but also volunteer workspaces for international teams, a kitchen and dining area, firefighting equipment storage, a vehicle garage, a welding and maintenance workshop, logistics rooms, and multi-use spaces for meetings or community events.
For example, our famous Big Boy Beni wouldn't be where he is now—on a pre-release island just a step from freedom—if we hadn't cared for him the way we do and continue to do. And this is only possible if we give him everything he needs on his journey to freedom, including his beloved bananas, which requires a supporting infrastructure like this vital building, for which we ask your help right now.
By donating to the multipurpose building this Christmas, you can help our orangutans with a gift that serves not only one but multiple purposes in our efforts to care for them and ultimately save them from extinction. It's infrastructure like this that enables us to give the loving care these traumatised orphans desperately need.
"It's a perfect, versatile structure that embodies our commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and forest conservation—creating a space that supports both orangutan care and environmental protection"
